Common Questions

Honest answers about the work and how it begins.

I'm a midlife woman who feels anxious — why does it feel different now?

Midlife anxiety often links to hormonal shifts, cumulative stress, role changes, and early-life patterns resurfacing. Anxiety in women can present more as bodily symptoms and rumination, so a tailored assessment helps pinpoint the medical and psychological pieces and shape care that actually fits.

Can therapy help anxiety that feels physical, like a racing heart or tight chest?

Yes. Therapy, together with appropriate medical checks, teaches nervous-system regulation, breath and grounding skills, and cognitive tools to ease rumination. Somatic approaches, EMDR, and trauma-informed work are especially helpful when the body leads.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

Dr. Wilson integrates evidence-based modalities tailored to each person: CBT and trauma-focused interventions, somatic approaches, EMDR, psychodynamic work, mindfulness, and for couples, Relational Life Therapy (RLT) with strategies from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). All are offered with nonjudgmental warmth and a healing-centered approach, in person in St. Augustine Beach and Jacksonville or virtually across Florida.

What are therapy intensives, and are they right for me?

Intensives are concentrated blocks of therapy, six to twelve weeks, for accelerated work on a specific focus: relationship repair, trauma processing, or a major transition. They fit well when you want rapid momentum, have limited time, or need a focused reset. We can talk through whether an intensive or regular weekly sessions suit your goals. Full fees are on the Fees page.

What issues do you address in couples therapy for midlife relationships?

Dr. Wilson works with couples on resentment, sexual tension, communication breakdowns, role shifts, caregiving stress, and the patterns that repeat, including marriages affected by infidelity and betrayal. Couples therapy focuses on discovering and shifting those patterns, rebuilding safety, and restoring intimacy.

What should I expect in an initial consultation?

We'll clarify your main concerns, review the relevant history (medical, relational, and any trauma), identify immediate coping strategies, and co-create a plan together, whether that's weekly therapy, an intensive, or a blended approach.
